Annette Funicello's dancer was discovered on the streets of Fullerton California by Walt Disney at the age of thirteen years old. Funicello didn't audition for the Mickey Mouse Club and joined after the beginning of season one of the show, much to the dislike of the show's Mickey Mouse Club peers. Disney's intuitions were right Funicello soon became the most sought-after Mickey Mouse Club performer. The show's own storyline Adventures in Dairyland also featured the actress. It was soon clear that Funicello had to record so that she could maximize her talents as a teenage performer, and although Annette wasn't very enthusiastic about her ability to sing, Disney engaged established arranger Tutti Camerata to guide her career as an recording artist. Funicello eventually became accustomed to making records and truly loved working with Camerata one of the rare forty-something arrangers of the time who had the fundamental building blocks of early rock music. Annette Sings Anka was the third album, and probably the first to include the songs of rock stars in the set list of songs. Funicello appeared in Beach Party which was one of five extremely popular beach film series, which often featured Frankie Avalon. Although produced by AIP the scripts were individually reviewed and endorsed by Walt Disney, in order to preserve Annette's spotless image. Funicello's films helped break many other artists.
